Rapids

earth science Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Some parts of a river move very fast.

This happens on a steep slope. The water flows downhill quickly.

The river bed can be uneven. Hard rocks stay in the way. Soft rocks wash away first. The water splashes over these rocks. This makes white foam on top. This white water helps the river stay clean. Some people use rafts to ride them. Some rapids are very hard to cross.

It is fun to watch the water move.
