Some rivers flow over hard rock.

These are called bedrock rivers. They are often in high mountains. The water moves very fast down the hills.

Fast water has a lot of energy. This energy hits the rock. It can wear the rock away slowly.

Small bits of sand and dirt help. They rub against the rock like sandpaper. This can make deep holes.

Sometimes, the water even pulls big chunks away. This makes the river bed change. It is amazing to see!
