Radio drama is a story told only through sound.

You cannot see any actors. Instead, you use your ears to follow the tale. The show uses voices, music, and sound effects. These sounds help you imagine the characters and the world. It is a very powerful way to tell a story.

Radio drama became very popular in the 1920s. By the 1940s, it was a top way to have fun. Many shows were written just for the radio. Some were also plays from the stage or operas. One famous show was The War of the Worlds. It was so realistic that it caused a mass panic. This showed how much power sound can have.

Today, radio drama is still alive in many places. In the United Kingdom, the BBC makes hundreds of new plays each year. In New Zealand, the RNZ still shares many dramas. You can also find them as podcasts. This makes it easy to make and hear new stories.
