A résumé is a document used to get a job. It shows your skills and what you have done. The word comes from a French word that means 'to summarize.'

Long ago, people wrote letters to find work. Leonardo da Vinci might have written the first one. For a long time, these lists were very simple. In the early 1900s, they included things like height and weight. By 1950, people added their hobbies to the list.

Today, most people use computers to make résumés. Some people even make video résumés to show their talents. Many companies use a computer system to read them. These systems look for special words called keywords. It is smart to use these words so the computer finds you.

There are different ways to set up a résumé. A common way is called reverse chronological. This lists your jobs from the newest to the oldest. Another way is a hybrid résumé. This mixes your skills with your job history. This helps you show your best parts first.
