Quintus Roscius was a famous actor in ancient Rome. He was born a slave in a place called Lanuvium. His master saw him mimic other people. This led him to study acting. At first, his master kept all his pay. Later, he could keep some of his earnings. He used this money to buy his freedom.

Roscius was a master of comedy. He did not act like a clown. Instead, he used grace and style. He studied how great speakers moved and talked. This helped him win praise from everyone. Even the famous writer Cicero took lessons from him. They even had friendly contests to see who was better.

He was very successful and became very rich. A leader named Sulla gave him a gold ring. This was a big honor for an actor. People thought he was very handsome, too. Long after he died, his name stayed famous. Great actors were often called a "Roscius" to show their skill. Even William Shakespeare mentioned him in his plays.
