This event lasted from 2017 until 2021. It involved Qatar and several other countries in the Arab League. These countries included Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt. They decided to stop being friendly with Qatar. This meant they cut off official ties. It was a very difficult time for the region.

The crisis worked by blocking many ways for Qatar to connect with the world.

Saudi Arabia closed the only land border with Qatar. This created a blockade on land. Other countries also banned Qatari ships and planes from using their space. This made it hard to move goods by sea or air. Qatar had to find new ways to get what it needed. They began to import more things from Turkey and Iran. This helped them keep their economy running during the hard times.

In 1995, Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani became the leader of Qatar. He wanted Qatar to be a fully independent country. He did not want it to just follow Saudi Arabia. This caused tension with other Arab governments. Some countries disliked the news station Al Jazeera. Others were worried about Qatar's ties to Iran. These disagreements grew much stronger over many years.

In May 2017, people hacked the Qatar News Agency website. They posted fake messages to make the Qatari leader look bad. US intelligence agencies believed the United Arab Emirates was behind this. There were also many demands made against Qatar. The other countries wanted Qatar to close Al Jazeera. They also wanted Qatar to stop working with Turkey. Qatar refused to follow these demands.

Finally, the crisis ended because leaders decided to talk.
