Pupa

life science Maturity 9-11 Next article →

Some bugs change a lot.

They start as small larvae. Then they become a pupa.

Inside, they grow into adults.

Most pupae stay in one place. They do not eat food. This helps them build adult parts. Some pupae, like mosquitoes, can swim.

Many pupae hide to stay safe. Some make a silk case called a cocoon. Others hide under the ground. Some even hide in nests.

When it is time, the bug comes out. It splits the hard shell. Most butterflies come out in the morning. Mosquitoes come out at night.

This big change is amazing to see!
