It has a soft filling. This filling is made of pumpkin and eggs. People also add milk and sugar. To make it taste good, bakers use pumpkin pie spice. This is a mix of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves.

The pie can be orange or brown. Most people bake it in a single crust. Some people put whipped cream or marshmallows on top.

Many people eat this pie in the fall. It is a symbol of the harvest. In the United States and Canada, people eat it for Thanksgiving. They also eat it at Christmas. Long ago, early settlers made pumpkin soup in a pumpkin. Later, they made a sweet custard pie. In 1947, the White House did not serve it. This was because of egg rationing after the war. Today, it is a very popular treat. Some people even make giant pies. One huge pie in Ohio used 2,796 eggs! A record holder even ate 50 slices in 10 minutes.
