People use it to shape how others see them. This can be for a business or a leader. PR is different from ads. In ads, you pay to show a message. In PR, workers try to get news for free. This is often called earned media.

PR workers have many jobs. They write speeches for leaders. They also write for websites and social media. They might hold a meeting for reporters.

This is called a media conference. These workers help groups build good reputations. They also help during a crisis.

This work has a long history. Some say it started with old ideas about persuasion. In 1900, a group called the Publicity Bureau opened in Boston. Later, Ivy Lee became a famous PR advisor. He worked for a man named Rockefeller. Another man, Edward Bernays, helped spread PR to other countries. Today, PR is a big job all over the world. It uses the internet to talk to people directly.
