She also started the Shram Sadhana Trust to support working women. However, some of her business ventures faced legal problems. She co-founded the Pratibha Mahila Sahari Bank. This bank eventually ceased trading in 2003. The Reserve Bank of India cancelled its license. Auditors found that the bank gave illegal loans to her relatives. Some of these loans were never repaid, which led to the bank's liquidation.
After her presidency ended in July 2012, more issues arose. There were questions about her use of public funds for a retirement home. She also faced scrutiny regarding gifts given to her in her official role. She was eventually required to return many of these gifts.
