Shooters try to hit targets very fast. They must also be very neat with their aim. This sport uses three main ideas. These are speed, power, and precision. Precision means being very exact. If a shooter is not exact, they get penalties. This can slow them down or lower their score.

Each course is called a stage. Shooters must move during a stage. They might shoot from behind a wall. They might move to many different spots. This makes the sport a big puzzle to solve.

There are many ways to play. Some people play Cowboy Action Shooting. They wear old clothes from the 1800s. They even use fun nicknames! Other people play Multigun. This means they use rifles, handguns, and shotguns in one match. One group, the IDPA, focuses on self-defense. They practice shooting from behind cover to stay safe.
