He lived a long time ago. He was part of a group called La Pléiade. This group helped change how people wrote in French.

Pontus was a very skilled writer. He was one of the first to write sonnets. A sonnet is a type of short poem. He also brought the sestina to French poetry. A sestina is another special kind of poem. In 1552, he wrote about how poets get ideas. He called this a divine fury. He said this gift was not the same as being mad. He believed there were four kinds of this gift. One kind came from the Muses. Another came from religious mysteries. A third came from the god Apollo. The last kind came from Venus.

Later, Pontus studied math and big ideas. He became a bishop in 1578. He also supported King Henry III. This caused trouble for him. People took things from his home. He later lived at the Château de Bragny. He died there in 1605.
