Arnaut Daniel was a famous poet from a long time ago. He lived in the 12th century. He was a troubadour. A troubadour is a poet who writes songs. He was known for his great skill. The writer Dante called him a master craftsman. Another writer named Petrarch called him a grand master of love.

Arnaut had a very special way of writing. He used a style called trobar clus. This means his poems were hard to understand. He used strange words and tricky rhymes. He liked to make his work a puzzle. He also invented a new song form. It is called a sestina. A sestina has six parts. Each part has six lines. The same words end every line. They move around in a complex way.

We still have sixteen of his songs today. One song was written around the year 1181. We do not know his original music. A person wrote music for one song much later. Many great writers still love his work. They study how he used words to make new effects. His clever poems changed how people wrote songs forever.
