Every person must pay it. It does not matter how much money you have. This can be hard for poor people.

In the past, many lands used this tax. In England, leaders used it to pay for wars. Sometimes, people were very angry about it.

In the United States, some used it for voting. This made it hard for many to vote. This was not fair to them.

In Canada, a fee was charged to some people. It was meant to stop them from coming. This rule was later ended.

Many people worked hard to change these rules. They wanted things to be more fair for all.
