Pioneer 11 was a robotic space probe. NASA launched it on April 5, 1973.

Its job was to study deep space. It looked at the asteroid belt and the solar wind. It also studied the planets Jupiter and Saturn.

The probe flew past Jupiter in late 1974. It used a gravity assist to move toward Saturn. A gravity assist uses a planet's pull to change speed.

This helped the probe fly much faster.

In 1979, Pioneer 11 reached Saturn. It was the first probe to visit this planet. It flew through the rings to see if they were safe. This helped later missions like Voyager.

It found new small moons and studied the moon Titan. It found that Titan was too cold for life.

Pioneer 11 used RTGs for power. These are special tools that turn heat into power.

By 1995, the probe had very little power left. It could no longer run its tools. It eventually passed the orbit of all the planets. It is now in the deep parts of space.
