He was born in Rome in 1698. As a young boy, he could make up poems quickly. This talent caught the eye of a man named Gravina. Gravina became his protector and helped him learn.

Later, Metastasio moved to Naples and Rome. He began writing words for operas. An opera is a big musical play. He wrote the libretti, which are the words for the singers. A singer named Bulgarelli helped him become a star. She encouraged him to focus on his writing.

In 1729, he moved to Vienna. He worked as a poet for the royal court. He was very fast at his work. He once wrote a play in only nine days!

His stories were full of strong feelings. They were meant to sound like beautiful songs.

Many great composers used his words for their music. His poems were translated into many languages. People read his work in English, French, and German. Even after he died, his stories remained very popular.
