Pierre found that crystals can make electricity. This is called piezoelectricity. He and his brother made a tool to measure this.

Pierre also worked with his wife, Marie. They studied radioactivity. This is when tiny parts of atoms give off power. They found two new elements. These were called polonium and radium. In 1903, they won a Nobel Prize in Physics. This was a very big honor.

Pierre and Marie worked in a lab. The work was dangerous. They were exposed to a lot of radiation. This is a type of energy from atoms. Pierre died in a street accident in 1906. He fell under a heavy cart. Later, his wife also died from radiation sickness. Today, the Curies rest in the Panthéon in Paris.
