A man named Jose Bonifacio de Andrada e Silva found it in 1800. It is a good source of lithium. Lithium is a chemical element. We first found lithium in petalite in Sweden. The name lithium comes from a Greek word for stone. Petalite has very little iron. This makes it a great source for making glass. It was used to make CorningWare. This is a type of cooking ware. People also use it for ceramic glazes. Clear petalite can be used as gemstones. You can find it in many places. It is in Brazil and Canada. It is also in Australia and Namibia. It is found in Zimbabwe too. It grows in rocks called pegmatites. These rocks also have tourmaline. They can have spodumene and lepidolite too.
