Percy Fawcett was a British explorer. He was also a mapmaker and a soldier. He loved to travel to South America. He went to the Amazon jungle many times. He wanted to find an ancient lost city. He called this city "Z."

Percy made many maps of the jungle. He also studied old ruins and animals. He saw a giant snake in 1907. He found a document about an old city. This city had temples and statues. Percy believed a great civilization lived there long ago.

In 1924, Percy went on a final trip. He went with his son, Jack. He also went with Jack's friend, Raleigh Rimmel. They went into the deep jungle to find "Z."

On May 29, 1925, Percy wrote a letter. He said he was ready to explore new lands. After that, the group was never seen again. Many people tried to find them. Some thought they got lost. Others thought local tribes were involved. No one knows for sure what happened to them.
