Paul Fort was a famous poet from France. He was born in Reims in 1872. Later, his family moved to Paris. In Paris, he met many artists. He loved to be part of their world.

Fort first tried to change the theater. He started a group called the Théâtre d'Art. He wanted to show new kinds of plays. He even asked painters to make the sets. They used beautiful art for the backdrops.

Running a theater was hard work. Fort often spent too much money. He also found it hard to pick plays. Because of this, he decided to focus on poetry instead. He wrote a huge amount of poems. He wrote more than thirty books of them.

His poems had a special style. Some were called "Ballades françaises." These were poems that sounded like rhythmic prose. This means they were between poems and stories.

Many people respected his skill. In 1912, they gave him a special title. They called him the "Prince of Poets." One of his poems is very famous. It is called "La Ronde." It asks for friendship around the whole world.
