He did not write about grand tales. Instead, he wrote about small, everyday things. He looked very closely at objects like oranges, potatoes, and stones. He even wrote a long poem about soap. This book is called "Le Savon," which means "Soap."

He used a special way of writing. He wrote prose poems. These are poems that look like regular paragraphs. He did not want to use big symbols. He wanted to show how things really look and feel. He thought this could make language feel pure and strong. He wanted to help people stop thinking in old, easy ways.

During the Second World War, Ponge joined the French Resistance. This was a group that fought against the war. Later in life, he lived in a quiet country house. He won many great honors for his writing. One was the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1974. He was also a Commandeur of the Légion d'honneur. This is a high award in France. People still study his work to learn about the world.
