A pastry fork helps you eat sweet treats.

Pastry fork

This fork is made for eating desserts from a plate. It has three or four tines. Tines are the sharp points on a fork. Some forks have bars between the tines. Most barred forks were made before 1920.

Most pastry forks work with your right hand. The left side of the fork is wider. This wide side works like a knife. You can press it down to cut food. Left-handed forks are different. They have a wide side on the right.

In the late 1800s, people in America loved forks. Books said you should not use a knife for pastry. Instead, you could use the edge of a fork. This led to new kinds of tools. In 1869, a company made a cutting-tined fork. In 1892, Anna M. Mangin made a tool to mix dough.

Some forks are also used for salad. These are often called salad forks. They have wide tines to cut soft lettuce. Some companies make the same fork for many uses. It might be a salad fork or a pastry fork. This helps them sell more tools.
