The past is all the events that happened before now.

It is different from the present and the future. We use our memories to think about what happened. People have also written things down to keep records.

In English, we use different verb tenses to talk about time. A tense is a way to show when an action happens. The past tense is for things that already happened. For example, you might say "she walked." This means the walking is finished. There are other ways to use the past tense too. You can talk about things that were still happening in a prior window of time.

Sometimes, people use a special way to see time. They use a Cosmic Calendar. This makes the history of the universe fit into one single year.

This helps us see how big time really is. The word "past" can also describe a place. It can mean you are beyond a certain spot. For example, you might live just past the train station.
