He served two great kings. First, he worked for King Philip II. Later, he served King Alexander the Great. Parmenion was a very experienced leader. He led large armies into battle.

In 334 BC, Parmenion helped Alexander fight the Persian Empire. During big battles, the two men had different styles. Alexander liked to take fast risks. Parmenion was more careful. He often suggested safe plans. At the Battle of Granicus, Parmenion advised Alexander to wait. Alexander chose to attack anyway. Even so, the Macedonians won. At the Battle of Issus, Parmenion helped stop a Persian attack. This gave Alexander a chance to win.

Later, something very sad happened. Alexander's army thought Parmenion's son, Philotas, was part of a plot. The army put Philotas to death. Alexander feared Parmenion might be involved too. There was no proof that Parmenion did anything wrong. However, Alexander sent men to kill him. Two officers arrived and killed Parmenion. This ended the life of a great leader.
