Parliament Hill is a famous area in Ottawa, Ontario.

Long ago, this hill was a forest. First Nations people used it as a landmark. Later, it became a military base called Barrack Hill.

In 1858, Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as the capital. This changed the hill forever. Many people sent drawings to design the new buildings. The winners used a style called Gothic revival. This style looks like old buildings in Europe.

Building the main part was a very big job. It was the largest project in North America then. In 1916, a fire destroyed the Centre Block. Workers rebuilt it. They also built the Peace Tower in 1927. This tower honors Canadians who died in a big war.

Today, three million people visit the hill each year.

Big projects are happening now to fix the buildings. These repairs help keep the site safe for the future.
