At its biggest, Parhae covered much land. It held parts of China, Russia, and the Korean Peninsula. Many kinds of people lived there. The leaders came from a group called Goguryeo. Most common people were from the Mohe tribes. Parhae used Goguryeo ways. They used ondol, which is a way to heat homes. They also made special pottery and buildings.

At first, Parhae had fights with the Tang dynasty. The Tang was a large and powerful land. Later, the two groups became friends. They shared many things. The Tang even called Parhae a "prosperous country."

Finally, they disappeared under Mongol rule. Today, scholars still study Parhae. They talk about its borders and its people. It is a very important part of history.
