This art comes from people on the edges of society. Some are hermits or people living alone. Others are patients in hospitals.

A French artist named Jean Dubuffet liked this kind of work. He called it "art brut," which means "raw art."

He thought raw art was very special. He believed it came from a pure place. It was not made to win prizes or be famous.

One artist was named Adolf Wölfli.

He lived in a hospital. He made a huge story using 25,000 pages. He also made 1,600 drawings and 1,500 collages. Drawing helped him feel calm.

Today, people still love this art. There is even an art fair in New York. Many museums now show these works. They help us see how people express themselves in their own way.
