The species O. panderi is quite special. It was named by Erik Jarvik in 1948. This name honors Heinz Christian Pander, who first identified the fossils. This species was separated from others after specimens were re-examined. Some fossils once thought to be O. microlepidotus actually belonged to this distinct species. This shows how much scientific understanding can change with new study.
