Groups need rules to work well together. These rules are called organic laws. They form the foundation for a government or a big organization. An organic law is a base for other rules. A constitution is one special type of organic law. These laws help a group stay organized. They make sure everyone knows how the system works.

Different places use these laws in different ways. In France, these laws are very important. They are more important than ordinary laws. They follow a special set of steps to become real. The Parliament of France must pass them carefully. Then, the Constitutional Council must check them. This check makes sure they follow the constitution. These laws help plan the budget for France. They also help set rules for many elections.

Some countries use organic laws to bridge two ideas. Spain uses them this way. In Spain, these laws sit in the middle. They are between ordinary laws and the constitution. A large group called the Congress of Deputies must pass them. They need an absolute majority to win. These laws protect the basic rights of people. They also help different regions in Spain run themselves. This idea in Spain came from the French system.

Other places use organic laws to manage changes. Hong Kong uses a law called the Basic Law. This law helps Hong Kong follow the rules of China. It has nine chapters and 160 articles. The National People's Congress adopted it on 4 April 1990. It started working on 1 July 1997. This was when Hong Kong moved from the United Kingdom to China. The law explains how the local government works. It also lists the rights of the people there.

In the United States, organic laws are very famous. You can find them in Volume One of the United States Code. This book holds the permanent laws of the country. The U.S. Constitution is a major organic law. The Declaration of Independence is also on this list. The Articles of Confederation is another one. The Northwest Ordinance is also included.
