Opportunity worked for much longer than that. It stayed active for many years. It used solar power to work. This means it used energy from the sun. The sun helped charge its batteries. This let the rover work at night.

Opportunity had many big jobs. It looked for rocks and soil. Scientists wanted to find clues about water. They wanted to know if Mars could have had life. The rover traveled a long way. It visited many craters. One was called Victoria crater. It even found a meteorite. This is a rock from space.

In 2018, a huge dust storm hit Mars. The dust blocked the sun. The rover could not get enough power. It stopped talking to Earth on June 10, 2018. NASA sent many signals to find it. They did not get a reply. The mission was over.
