For many years, China had a special rule for families.

This was called the One-Child Policy. It started in 1979. Leaders wanted to slow down how fast the population grew. They feared the country would run out of food and resources.

The government used many ways to follow this rule. They used posters to teach people about it. Some families had to pay large fines if they had more than one child. In some cases, the rules were very strict. Women were sometimes forced to use birth control or have abortions.

The policy changed how life worked in China. Because of a preference for sons, many baby girls were left behind. This meant there were fewer women in the country. However, some women were able to work more. Other girls received more help with their school work.

Over time, the rules began to change. In 2015, families could have two children. In 2021, the limit went up to three. By the end of 2021, the government removed all limits. Now, they use rewards to help people have more children.
