The Old Testament is a big collection of books.

It is the first part of the Christian Bible. Many books were written by different people. They wrote them over many years.

Some books tell history. Other books have poems. Some books have messages from prophets. These prophets warned people about their choices.

Different groups have different books. A Protestant Bible has 39 books. A Catholic Bible has 46 books. Some Orthodox Bibles have up to 49 books.

Most people share many of these books. They use different names for them. Some books are only in certain Bibles. This is why the lists are not the same.

People still study these old stories today. They look at old things found in the ground. This helps them learn more about the past.
