These groups want to keep old traditions. They separated from the Roman Catholic Church after 1870. This happened after a meeting called the First Vatican Council. Many people disagreed with new ideas about the Pope. They did not believe the Pope was infallible. Infallible means he cannot be wrong about faith.

These groups formed the Union of Utrecht. This union helps them stay connected. Many of these churches are in Europe. You can find them in Germany and the Netherlands. They also live in Austria and Poland. Some groups use their own local language in prayer. They used to use Latin, but they changed this rule.

In 2008, a new group formed. It is called the Union of Scranton. This group left the Union of Utrecht. They did this because they had different views on some rules. They did not agree with allowing women to be priests. They also did not agree with blessings for same-sex marriages. Today, about 4,896,000 people follow these ways around the world.
