The Ogooué is a very big river in Africa.

Ogooué

It is the main river in the country of Gabon. Most of the river sits inside Gabon. Some parts flow into nearby countries too. This includes the Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea.

The river starts in the Bateke Plateaux. It flows through green rainforests. Some areas have dry grasslands. The river has many small streams that join it. These are called tributaries.

Many animals live in and around the water. You can find three types of African crocodiles there. There are also many kinds of birds. The river delta is a very important place for birds. The delta is about 100 km long and 100 km wide.

People use the river for work. Boats carry wood to a harbor called Port Gentil. Some parts of the river have rapids. Rapids are fast, bumpy parts of the water. Because of these, boats cannot always travel the whole way. Many towns sit along the river banks.
