The universe is very large. We can only see a part of it. This part is a sphere called the observable universe.

It includes all the matter we can see from Earth. We see these things because their light reached us.

Light travels at a set speed. It is the fastest thing in the universe. The universe is about 14 billion years old. Some objects are too far away for their light to reach us. These objects are outside our view. The radius of our view is about 46.5 billion light-years.

Space is also growing. This is called expansion. Some parts move away very fast. This can make distant objects look redder and fainter. We call this redshift.

Some far objects may eventually disappear from our sight. The whole universe might be much bigger than what we see. It could even be infinite. We do not know its true size yet.
