Neil Postman was a famous writer and teacher. He lived in New York City. He wrote 20 books about how we learn and use tools.

Postman studied how media changes our world. He wrote a book called Amusing Ourselves to Death. In it, he said TV can turn serious news into shows. He thought this made people stop having deep talks. He also wrote about a thing called Technopoly. This is when a culture lets technology rule everything. He felt people should use their own judgment instead of just using machines.

Postman also cared a lot about schools. He did not want kids to use personal computers in class. He thought school should be a place to learn together. He also wanted to help students tell truth from lies. He thought this was a very important skill. He did not hate all new tools. He liked how things like the telephone helped people live better lives. Postman died in 2003 at age 72. His ideas still help us think about our world today.
