He was a leader in a movement called Constructivism. This group used science and math to create art. Gabo did not want to make heavy, solid blocks. Instead, he wanted to show the beauty of space and time. He used many new materials like nylon, wire, and glass. He even used clear plastics and metal to build his shapes. His work helps us see the invisible parts of the world.

Gabo had two very big ideas for his sculptures. First, he wanted to show "negative space." This means the empty areas inside or around a shape. He used thin nylon threads to make these gaps look real. He wanted the empty space to feel just as important as solid parts. Second, he wanted to show time through movement. He created kinetic sculptures, which are artworks that actually move. One of his early works, called Standing Waves, is one of the first kinetic pieces ever made. He sometimes even used motors to make his art move.

Gabo's life was full of travel and change. He was born in a Russian town called Bryansk. He was part of a Jewish family with six children. His brother, Antoine Pevsner, was also a famous artist. To avoid confusion, Naum used a different name for his art. He studied medicine and science in Munich, Germany. Later, he went to an engineering school. This training helped him build very complex and precise shapes. He lived in many places like Berlin, Paris, and London.

In 1920, Gabo and his brother wrote the Realistic Manifesto. This was a famous paper that explained their new ideas. They shared it by putting it on walls in Moscow. They even held an art show on a bandstand in the street. Gabo believed art should match the new science of his time. He lived through many hard times, including a civil war in Russia. During that time, it was very hard to find machines for his art. Later, he moved to the United States in 1946. He lived in Connecticut and died in 1977.

You can find Gabo's art in many famous museums today. The Tate Gallery in London has many of his important works. The Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum in New York also hold his pieces. Some of his art is even outside for everyone to see. For example, Revolving Torsion is a large fountain in London. Another piece, called Constructie, is in Rotterdam.
