It sits just northwest of the huge Mexico City. The name Naucalpan comes from an old language called Nahuatl. It means "place of the four neighborhoods" or "four houses." The city is very important for industry in Mexico.

Many different things are made in local factories. These include food, drinks, clothes, and even paper. Most people in this area live in the city itself.

People have lived in this valley for a very long time. The Tlatilica people lived near the Hondo River a long time ago. They lived there between 1700 and 600 B.C.E. Later, the Olmecs and the Teotihuacan civilization had a big influence here. Between 1000 and 1200 C.E., the Chichimecas conquered the Tlatilica. They even built the Pyramid del Conde in the El Conde neighborhood. Later, the Aztec Triple Alliance took control and gave the area its name.

History tells many legends about this place. Some say Hernán Cortés rested here in 1520. This was during a time called the "Noche Triste."

Another story says an image of the Virgin Mary was left here. This image is known as the Virgin of Los Remedios. People built a sanctuary for her in 1875. In the 1800s, the town became an independent municipality. It even had its own newspaper called "Diario Militar."

Naucalpan has many famous landmarks and large numbers. In 2010, the total population was 913,681 people. Most of these people live in the Naucalpan Municipality. The city is well known for a place called Ciudad Satélite. This area was built in the 1960s. It features five tall towers called the Torres de Satélite.

These towers were designed by Luis Barragán and Matias Goeritz. They are even listed as architectural heritage by UNESCO.

Today, the landscape is changing because of new roads and buildings. Big highways like the Viaducto Bicentenario pass through the area. These roads connect the city to other parts of Mexico. Many people use cars to get around the city.

Some areas are still green, like the Los Remedios National Park. However, there is a lot of pressure to build more houses there. The city continues to grow and change every day.
