Most people use bits. But some use a unit called a nat.

A nat is a way to measure information entropy. Entropy is a way to measure how much info is in an event.

This unit uses a special math rule. It uses natural logarithms. It also uses the number e.

One nat is a specific amount of info. It happens when an event has a chance of 1/e.

A nat is larger than a shannon. One nat is about 1.44 shannons. It is also about 0.434 hartleys.

Some people used to call it a nit. They changed the name to nat.

They did this to avoid a mix-up. A nit is also a unit for light.

Alan Turing used a different name. He called it a natural ban.

Scientists also use this in heat studies. They use it to measure thermodynamic entropy.

This helps them link info to heat.
