Long ago, many people used this weapon. Samurai, foot soldiers, and warrior monks used it. It was also a famous weapon for female warriors. These women were called onna-musha. The long pole helped people stay at a safe distance. It also gave them more power when they struck. The weight of the weapon helped in a fight. Some people even used the heavy end of the pole. This end cap is called an ishikizuki.
