"My Way" is a famous English song that people all over the world recognize. It is a lyrical adaptation of a French song called "Comme d'habitude." This song is often used to look back on a person's life. People often feel nostalgia when they hear it. This means they are thinking about the past with a mix of feelings. Because of this, it is a very popular song played at funeral services in the UK.

It has become a way for people to honor a life lived.

The song's journey began with French writers Jacques Revaux, Gilles Thibaut, and Claude François. They created the original version, which Claude François first recorded in 1967. In 1968, a songwriter named Paul Anka heard the music while on vacation in the south of France. He traveled to Paris to buy the rights to the song for one dollar. Anka wanted to write new English words specifically for Frank Sinatra. He sat at an IBM electric typewriter at one o'clock in the morning to write them.

He finished the new lyrics by five in the morning.

Frank Sinatra recorded his famous version on December 30, 1968. He did the whole thing in just one take. The recording featured a drummer named Buddy Saltzman. When the song was released in 1969, it became a massive success. In the UK, it stayed in the top 40 charts for 75 weeks. This was a huge achievement in music history.

It even earned a spot in the Grammy Hall of Fame in the year 2000.

Many different artists have tried to make the song their own. Elvis Presley sang it during his live shows in the 1970s. His version was very successful and sold over a million copies. A punk singer named Sid Vicious also made a version in 1977. He changed many of the words and made the music much faster.

Even in Japan, a singer named Yūzō Kayama performed it. He even sang a duet with Frank Sinatra's earlier recording in 2015.

The song is so well-known that it has influenced many other things. In 1987, a leader named Mikhail Gorbachev used the song's idea for a policy. People called it the "Sinatra Doctrine" because it was about countries deciding their own paths. The song is also a favorite for karaoke singers.

However, it has even caused some trouble in the Philippines, where some bars banned it. From big political ideas to small singing clubs, "My Way" is everywhere.
