Motörhead was a famous rock band from London.

They were known for making music that was loud, fast, and powerful. Many people call their sound heavy metal. Some think they helped start the new wave of British heavy metal in the late 1970s. However, the singer Lemmy Kilmister always said they were a rock and roll band. Their music was embraced by both punk and metal fans.

This unique style helped them become one of the most important groups in rock history.

Making their music was all about energy and speed. Lemmy wanted the sound to be basic and raucous. He once said their music would be so loud it could kill a lawn.

The band often worked as a power trio. This means they usually had only three members playing at once. They would use instruments like the bass guitar, electric guitar, and drums. They sang about many different things. Their lyrics often covered topics like war, gambling, and the abuse of power. Their hit song "Ace of Spades" focused on the theme of gambling.

Lemmy Kilmister started the band in 1975.

He was the main songwriter and the only member who stayed for the whole career. He first formed the group after leaving a band called Hawkwind. At first, the band was quite poor. They even had to steal equipment because they did not have enough. They practiced in a basement in Chelsea. Early on, they even won a poll for the "best worst band in the world." This shows how hard they had to work to find success.

Over forty years, the band released many records.

They made 24 studio albums and 21 live recordings. The "classic" lineup included Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke, and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor. This group had huge success in the early 1980s. Their album "Ace of Spades" reached number 4 on the UK charts. Another famous record was the live album "No Sleep 'til Hammersmith." By 2025, the band had sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. They were even ranked among the greatest hard rock artists by VH1.

Motörhead's influence can still be heard in many types of music today.

Their fast style helped shape thrash metal and speed metal. Fans still show their love for the band through many items. Some people even wear belt buckles with the band's "War-Pig" logo.

The band finally broke up in 2015 after Lemmy passed away. Even though the band is gone, their loud and fast music remains a big part of the world of rock.
