Mo Yan is a famous writer from China. He writes many books and short stories. He often uses a brush and ink to write by hand. He likes this way because typing can limit his words. This helps him use many colorful words in his stories.

Mo Yan's stories mix old folk tales with real history. He often writes about his own home in Gaomi. His style is called hallucinatory realism. This means he blends dream-like ideas with real life. He also uses dark humor in his work.

One of his most famous books is Red Sorghum. It tells stories about a family in China. Another book is Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out. In that story, a man is reborn as different animals. He writes about many big changes in Chinese history.

In 2012, Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize in Literature. This is a very big honor for writers. His name, Mo Yan, means "don't speak" in Chinese. It came from a warning his parents gave him. He is now known all over the world.
