Because they are so fine, they cook very fast. They only need less than two minutes in hot water. You must be careful when you cook them. They break easily if you cook them for too long. Most people use them in warm soups. They also work well in dishes that are lightly boiled.

Misua started a long time ago in Fujian, China.

In that place, thin wheat noodles have been a staple for many centuries. Later, Chinese immigrants moved to Southeast Asia. They brought these noodles with them to new lands. In the Philippines, the noodles became part of home cooking. They also became part of many ceremonial meals. This shows how Chinese food changed local food culture.

In Taiwan, there are two different types of misua.

The first type is plain. The second type is a light brown color. This happens because the noodles are steamed at a high heat. This heat makes them caramelize. The brown noodles are very strong. They can cook for a long time without falling apart. People use them to make a dish called oyster vermicelli.

Misua has a very special meaning in Chinese culture.

These noodles symbolize a long life. Because of this, they are a traditional food for birthdays. People often serve plain misua with pork hocks in a stewed broth. To keep the symbol of long life, people do not cut the noodles. They also avoid chewing them into small bits. You can add many things to the soup, like eggs, tofu, or beef. Other people add oysters, mushrooms, or even fried fish.
