A woman named Armi Kuusela from Finland won the first title. Since then, many countries have joined the event. Most years, more than 70 countries take part. Canada and France are special because they have been in every show since 1952.

Rules for the contest change over time. In the past, women could not be married or have children. Now, mothers and married women can compete. Also, there is no longer an age limit. Starting in 2024, any adult woman in the world can try to win. Judges pick winners by looking for smart and cultured women. They use a ranked vote to choose the best candidates.
