Mir Damad was a famous thinker from Iran. He lived a long time ago. He was born around 1561. He died around 1631 or 1632. Many people knew him as a great scholar. He was part of a cultural renaissance in Iran. This happened under the Safavid dynasty. People called him the Third Teacher. This was a very high honor. It placed him after Aristotle and al-Farabi.

Mir Damad had many big ideas about the world. He studied how time works. He looked at how things come from a divine source. He had a special idea called huduth-e-dahri. This is also called atemporal origination. He used this to explain how the world began. He argued that everything has a special connection to time. This includes the earth and the stars. He believed everything except God shares this trait.

He was the founder of the School of Isfahan. This group followed a way of thinking called Hikmat-i Ilahi. This means Divine Wisdom. He also helped bring back a style of philosophy. It was called al-Falsafa al-Yamani. This style uses the words of prophets. It is different from the logic used by the Greeks. Mir Damad wrote many books on these topics. One book is called Taqwim al-Iman. Another is the Kitab Qabasat al-Ilahiyah.

Mir Damad was a very busy writer. He wrote about many different things. He wrote books on math too. He also wrote poetry. He used the secret name Ishraq for his poems. Ishraq means Illumination. Some people say his writing is very hard to read. He made up new words to explain his ideas. He had many students. One famous student was Mulla Sadra. Others included Mulla Shams Gilani and Qutb-al-Din Mohammad Ashkevari.

He was also a smart architect. He helped design the Masjed-e Shah. This is the Shah Mosque in Isfahan. He used math to build the huge dome. He even used the speed of sound in his work. The dome has many interior corners. Sound travels to these corners and then meets in the center. This was very advanced for the 17th century. Mir Damad was also part of a royal family. He married the daughter of Shah Abbas. This helped him become very famous.
