Mindoro is a large island in the Philippines.

It is the seventh largest island in the country. You can find it near the coast of Luzon. It sits northeast of Palawan. The island is split into two parts. These parts are Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro.

Many mountains grow on the island. The Mindoro Mountain Range is the longest range there. Mount Halcon is the highest peak.

Mindoro has many special forests. These forests are separate from those on Luzon. This is because deep water kept the island alone for a long time. Because of this, many plants and animals live only on Mindoro. One special animal is the Tamaraw. It is a small water buffalo.

Many people live on the island. They speak Tagalog and many native languages. The Mangyan are the indigenous groups there. People work in farming and fishing. They grow rice, corn, and coconuts. Some people also work in mining.
