He wrote many short stories and fairy tales. People call him the founder of modern children's literature in his country. He was also one of the first to use his own name on books for children. Because of this, some people call him the Hans Christian Andersen of Japan. This name links him to a very famous storyteller from Europe. His work is still important to people today.

Ogawa's stories often focus on everyday life. He liked to write about things people see every day. Two of his most famous stories are "The Mermaid and the Red Candles" and "The Cow Woman." The story "The Cow Woman" was published in 1919. It tells a story about a mother and her son. The mother helps her son find the right path in life. She appears to him in many different ways.

Ogawa studied at Waseda University in Japan. He studied English literature at the school. He graduated from the university in 1905. That same year, he published his very first literary work. At that time, Waseda University was a center for a movement called Japanese Naturalism. In 1910, Ogawa published his first fairy tale. He was born in 1882 and lived until 1961.

His stories often have deep meanings and symbols. He used religious and philosophical ideas in his writing. Ogawa often wrote about the cycle of life. He believed that death is not a final end. In his stories, creatures can appear in a different form. This idea is seen in "The Cow Woman." This way of thinking makes his stories feel very special.

Many writers use symbols to tell big stories. Ogawa did this to help readers think about life. He used the idea of new forms to show how life continues. His work connects simple stories to very big ideas. He showed how even small things have meaning. This helped change how children's books were made in Japan. His legacy lives on through his many tales.
