He wrote short stories and fairy tales. Many people call him the father of modern children's books in Japan. He was one of the first to use his own name on books for kids. Some people even call him the Hans Christian Andersen of Japan.

Ogawa went to Waseda University. He studied English literature there. He finished his studies in 1905. That same year, he shared his first work with the world. In 1910, he wrote his first fairy tale.

His stories often use things from everyday life. He wrote a famous story called The Mermaid and the Red Candles. He also wrote The Cow Woman in 1919. That story is about a mother who helps her son. Even after she dies, she appears to him in different ways. She helps him find the right path in life.

Ogawa's work often has deep meanings. He wrote about the cycle of life. He believed death is not the end. Instead, life can take a new form. This idea is a big part of his stories.
