It is a central processing unit, or CPU. This is the main part that runs a computer. The chip holds many parts on one small circuit. This is called an integrated circuit.

It works by taking in binary data. Binary is a system of numbers using only two parts. The chip follows instructions to process this data. Then, it gives out the results.

Inside the chip, a part called the ALU does math. The ALU stands for arithmetic logic unit. It can add or subtract numbers. A control logic part tells the ALU what to do.
